Welcome To New York NY
Nothing offers the magic, promise, opportunity, and sheer awe that New York City, NY provides to visitors. As the most populous city in the country and one of the richest in cultural and historical aspects, it boasts some 39 million visitors annually. While offering so much, one of the most challenging aspects of a visit to the area rests in the sheer amount of things to do available.

Ultra modern but with plenty of outstanding historic elements, New York City, often called the Big Apple or just NYC, welcomes visitors from around the world. With five boroughs of amazing attractions, many visitors start at Times square, a large intersection where the entire city comes to life. From the Broadway shows to the various museums, not to mention the interesting people (look for the Naked Cowboy), this Midtown area offers every type of world cuisine at area restaurants.

The Empire State Building, the second tallest structure in the city, towers over the city and offers a bit of historic charm. Step back and look at the skyline of New York City. The skyscrapers, bridges, and monuments that create this picturesque view are awe-inspiring. To view it, visit the 86th floor of the Empire State Building where an observation deck awaits. The only one taller, One World Trade Center, should see completion in 2013.

On the other hand, some may not like the commercialization of this portion of the city. Instead, check out Central Park, a lone green-space on 843 acres with gardens, arches, vistas, and rolling meadows to bring people back to nature even after living and working in this modern town. Visit the Central Park Zoo, Friedsam Memorial Carousel, the Great Lawn and the Belvedere Castle, all sitting within the park's boundaries.

Culturally important, NYC boasts dozens of museums. Some of the most significant include the Metropolitan Museum of Art, The National Design Museum, and the American Museum of Natural History. For science lovers, the Hayden Planetarium at the Rose Center for Earth and Space offers a fantastic treat with hands-on exhibits.

Those unfamiliar with the city may wish to see if New York City offers a unique area of special commercial or cultural interest to them. Visitors likely know of areas such as Little Italy or Chinatown, but may not realize the enormous numbers special neighborhoods including but not by as means limited to Little India, Harlem and the Lower East Side for ethnic interest. When you want to shop for something special areas offer an amazing concentration of businesses in the same industry such as jewelry shopping on 47th St. between 5th and 6th Ave, music stores on 48th St. just off Broadway or lighting and restaurant equipment on the Bowery.

Paying homage to history, many Americans enjoy a trip to the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island. These iconic trademark attractions provide a sense of pride to visitors. Though visitors to the observation deck of Lady Liberty remain limited, many visitors benefit from a walk through the American Family Immigration History Center nearby instead. Boat rides around this area allow for up close viewing.

On the other hand altogether, some come for the sports and New Yorkers do love their sports. With Yankee Stadium in the backdrop and professional teams like the New York Knicks who with the Rangers of the NHL, play at Madison Square Garden and the New York Jets and Giants from the NFL to call their own, locals boast immense passion for their teams. Other teams to see here include the Nets of the NBA and the Mets in MLB.

Perhaps slightly lesser known but still a valuable visit is to the Flushing Meadows - Corona Park area. This large park features numerous attractions including the Queens Museum of Art, the Unisphere (a 140-foot stainless steel globe) and the New York Hall of Science. The US Open, the most commonly known event taking place here, happens annually.

With so much to see and do, travelers may need to stay a long time to do it all. Nevertheless, with fabulous food and shopping around every corner, many do stay as long as they can or come back repeatedly.
